Biobased Vertical drains

The world is changing around us. We feel the urge to act and have developed after years of research two types of vertical drain with a lower environmental footprint.

Sustainable vertical drain materials

After years of searching, experimenting, testing and many trial and error runs in our factory, we have achieved an important milestone with the introduction of two new, sustainable types of vertical drain (PVD): the BioDrain and the Green PVD. Both PVD types fall under our MebraDrain biobased product line.

The Biodrain has already been deployed on several projects in the Netherlands, the Green PVD on several projects in South-East Asia. The research and development process of the BioDrain, made of biobased plastic, was carried out by Geotechnics, the in-house production company of the vertical drains. The Green PVD originates from the jute and coconut fiber drains developed in Asia. It has been added to our portfolio to provide a plant based natural alternative with the ultimate goal to use as much local materials as possible in this 100% green and compostable PVD.

This has resulted in the following portfolio for the PVD types Cofra is able to install on your project. The choice is yours!

Green PVD benefits

The Green PVD is our most sustainable consolidation solution. Due to the use of natural materials, the spread in characteristics can be larger. The discharge is lower in comparison to the other drain types provided. This could lead to higher resistance in the drain during periods with high demand. The following benefits outweight the limitatons of this drain leading to more or less similar performance in the field compared to the other drain solutions.
